The International Festival of Children's Double Bass was born in 2020, materializing a dream of Imer Acuña, who from her university studies and her trips abroad, observed how in some countries the execution of the double bass begins at an early age, unlike Mexico, her native country . During her university career, she got to know the Suzuki philosophy and set several goals that would later become part of the festival:

1) Get double basses of a suitable size for boys, girls and adolescents.

2) Break the paradigm that the double bass cannot be played at an early age.

3) Inform and train teachers on the methods that can be used to teach the double bass in a didactic way and at an early age.

4) Create a didactic repertoire for the double bass for children and young people.

Imer knows the teacher Claus Freudenstein, the creator of the minibass, which maintains that dream of being able to achieve a double bass education project at an early age. During the confinement of the year 2020 and through a conversation with the teacher Claus for Latin America, Imer meets Nataly Linares and Angélica Gómez, who would also become founders of the Festival. In the same way Imer had followed and been inspired by Paula Hernández Dionis, who is the author of the books “From the cello to the bass” so Imer communicates and shares that dream, getting Paula's attention and making her Founder. At the end of 2020, maestro Andrés Martín summons several double bass players in Mexico and encourages them to create projects, so Imer Acuña found the opportunity and inspiration to materialize her dream, an International Children's Double Bass Festival. This is how in December 2020 the first edition of the Festival is held virtually, inviting Maestro Claus who spoke about his minibass and a composition contest was also created to encourage the creation of a double bass repertoire for children between 8  up to 16 years old. Since then, in July 2021, the second edition has been held, which although it was designed in a hybrid way, due to a rebound in the COVID 19 pandemic, the festival had to be held virtually. This year 2022 and in its 3rd edition, the festival will be held in a hybrid way (on site and online) and seeks to connect children and young people from different countries, provide teachers with tools for teaching the double bass at an early age and create through the composition contest, new didactic repertoires for the double bass.

We invite you to be part of our 3rd edition!
